Climbing pt.2

Enhancing Russell’s Climbing Abilities

Here are the latest updates on the climbing mechanics we’re developing for Russell:

Current Capabilities

Ledge Jumping: Russell can now jump from ledge to ledge, provided they are at the same height. This allows him to traverse horizontal gaps effectively.

Vertical Movement: Russell can climb up and down ledges, making it easier to navigate vertical spaces.

Freehang and Shimmy: He can perform a freehang idle and shimmy along ledges, with the ability to move in both directions. This adds to his flexibility when maneuvering around obstacles.

Next Steps

Mantling: We’re working on enabling Russell to mantle up onto the top of an edge, which will let him climb over higher obstacles.

Detecting the End of Ledges: To prevent Russell from falling off unintendedly, we need a reliable way to detect the end of ledges. We’re considering:

  1. Collision Boxes: Placing collision boxes at the corners of ledges.
  2. Arrow Components: Using arrow components around Russell’s shoulders to trace to the wall and check if the ledge continues.

Super Long Jump: Another feature in development is a super long jump, which will include a grabbing edge at the end. This will allow Russell to leap across large gaps and grab onto ledges.

These enhancements are aimed at making Russell’s movements more fluid and versatile. We’ll keep you updated as we make progress on these features.
